Why Lyceum Centre?
In Australia, studies and reports have shown there is a lack of understanding as well as programs dedicated to gifted and talented students. Government funding for gifted development is decreasing year by year and exemplified by the recent disbanding of the gifted education team in the NSW Department of Education. There are also many misunderstandings surrounding the gifted population, including how they are able to do everything themselves and thus do not need support.
The “teach to the middle approach” and ensuring all kids reach a minimum level is typical of Australian schools for important and practical reasons. However, gifted students end up being the “forgotten ones”. They often underachieve or feel demotivated and are left overlooked (or unidentified) as most schools do not have the time and resources for the gifted students.
Inspired by Aristotle who founded a school called Lyceum, the Lyceum Centre helps to address this gap by providing courses designed especially for gifted students. Research have shown that environmental factors can have strong influence on whether gifted students succeed or not. We aim to provide an environment which enrich and challenge students to facilitate them to achieve their full potential.
Dedicated Programs Only for the Gifted
Our workshops and programs are different as they are all designed with gifted and talented students in mind. We facilitate students to exploit their talents to maximise their full potential.
Programs are engaging, challenging and agile to meet the needs of gifted students.
We believe in customisation, extension (depth) and acceleration – which are incorporated in our programs and teaching.
Teaching is done for like-minded children not necessarily by age but by ability and interest.
Students also benefit and enjoy being with like-minded children. Our programs provide both the intellectual and social bonds that students need.

Expert Educators
Apart from formal teaching qualifications and experience, our educators have particular expertise in gifted education and students.
In addition, our educators are also gifted individuals themselves. This means they not only know how to teach gifted students but they also understand the needs and feelings of being gifted.
Just like students benefit from being with like-minded students, we believe it is also important to be taught by like-minded teachers.
Research Driven Methodologies
Based on Gagné Differentiated Model of Giftedness and Talent, apart from natural abilities, whether a person achieve his or her full potential will depend on both intrapersonal and environmental catalysts. At Lyceum Centre, we form part of the catalysts and aim to influence and facilitate gifted students to reach their full potential.
Our teaching and methodologies are based on the latest research on gifted education, including our own original research. We use the best practices that have been identified from around the world and from the experience of our expert educators.
