About the Event
Course Summary:
Are fairy tales still relevant to our present society? How might exposure to fairytales change the way we see the world? Why were fairy tales created? This two-day workshop will explore and extend key English concepts based on the Australian curriculum utilising engaging activities and introducing the Philosophy for Children (P4C) format developed by Dr. Philip Cam to stimulate the inquisitive mind.
The workshop will end with a final discussion on the driving question facilitated by the tutor. Students will write a reflection card based on the discussion to reflect on their own performance and learning.
The workshop will be led by Ms Wong, a high school English teacher in Sydney and a tutor and mentor for gifted students worldwide from countries including Australia, Hong Kong and the UK. Ms Wong is a member of Mensa and graduated with a Masters Degree in Gifted Education from UNSW with excellence.
By the end of the workshop, students will be able to:
- follow discussion conventions and contribute actively to an abstract topic
- ask thought-provoking questions to progress and enhance a discussion
- employ critical thinking in everyday situations
- See both the literal and abstract side of stories and issues communicated
