About the Event

Workshop Summary:

The Great Detective Challenge is a two-day workshop that will develop and extend the thinking skills of gifted students based on a stimulating detective case investigation. Designed to challenge the logical reasoning and thinking abilities of gifted students, students will work together and compete in groups in deducing clues, tackling complex puzzles, solving real-life problems - with the aim of finding the ultimate culprit!

This is a multi-disciplinary thinking skills workshop that will combine English, Maths and Logic. The high school stream is designed for Years 7-10 and will cover the following topics and skill sets:

Academic:  advanced logical thinking, problem solving, high-level deductive reasoning, complex patterns,  advanced data representation and interpretation, descriptive writing and information management.

Communication: collaboration and negotiation skills, persuasive/rhetoric, advanced abstract thinking,  presentation skills, discussion on peer relations and understanding relation between intention, action, and consequence.

The workshop will be led by Ms Wong and Dr Kwok.

  • Ms Wong is a high school English teacher in Sydney and a tutor and mentor for gifted students worldwide from countries including Australia, Hong Kong and the UK. Ms Wong is a member of Mensa and graduated with a Masters Degree in Gifted Education from UNSW with excellence.  
  • Dr Kwok is both an experienced educator and a gifted individual himself. He has a Phd from UNSW, is a member of Mensa and achieved a ATAR equivalent of 99+.
