About the Event
Workshop Summary:
Mathematics is considered a global language for many reasons and it has been used since the start of civilization. It is perhaps the one key subject that is taught at schools across all countries and cultures.
In this workshop, students will be exposed to mathematics from different parts of the world including different strategies, problems and numbering systems. The workshop will extend student’s current understanding of mathematics and adopt a wider global perspective. Students will also learn to play mathematical games from different cultures. It will be a fun and rewarding social experience as students will play, learn and compete from other like-minded peers.
What Students Will Do:
· Explore mathematical concepts and problems from around the world
· Learn different mathematical strategies taught in different countries
· Introduced to different numbering systems
· Play mathematic games enjoyed by different cultures
· Mental maths exercises
· High-level problem solving
This workshop is designed for gifted students in grades 3-6, who enjoy maths, particularly those with a curious mind, and a love for games and challenges. The pace and depth of contents will be customised for students based on ability.
The workshop will be led by Dr Kwok:
Dr Kwok is both an experienced educator and a gifted individual himself. He has a Phd from UNSW, is a member of Mensa and achieved an ATAR equivalent of 99+.
