About the Event
Workshop Summary:
How do culture and language affect the way we view others and how others view us? This workshop will explore and extend key English concepts utilising engaging and intellectually-stimulating activities that focus not only on skill acquisition, but also on the nurturing of the gifted mind to reflect on and incorporate learning into experiences in daily life.
This high school stream is designed for Years 7-10 students. It will introduce concepts related to linguistics and culture, through utilising frameworks such as Hofstede's cultural dimensions, linguistic theories, and literary analysis to investigate how culture manifests in language and identity.
Schedule: Tuesday 4th - Wednesday 5th October (9:30am -1:00pm AEST)
Students will attend the online classes between 9:30am - 1:00pm (AEST) for 2 days.
The workshop will be led by Ms Wong, a high school English teacher in Sydney and a tutor and mentor for gifted students worldwide from countries including Australia, Hong Kong and the UK. Ms Wong is a member of Mensa and graduated with a Masters Degree in Gifted Education from UNSW with excellence.
This workshop will be delivered by Zoom and students are expected to set up their own connection to Zoom.
