About the Event

Workshop Summary:

This one full-day workshop is designed to develop and extend the thinking skills of gifted students via fun and challenging escape-room-themed scenarios. Students will work together and compete in groups in deducing clues and tackling complex puzzles, in a race against a decoder timer! They will be further challenged with a special task to create their own escape room problem and clues for others to solve. The workshop will also include a critical evaluation session based on their special task, in which students will learn how to present evaluations as well as how to handle evaluations.

This is a multi-disciplinary workshop that will combine different types of thinking skills and will cover the following topics and skill sets:

  • Academic:  advanced logical thinking, problem solving, high-level deductive reasoning, complex patterns,  advanced data representation and interpretation
  • Communication: collaboration skills, presentation skills, providing and receiving critical evaluations

*The high school stream will involve escape rooms with higher level of difficulties and critical thinking.

The workshop will be led by Ms Wong and Dr Kwok:

  • Ms Wong is a high school English teacher in Sydney and a tutor and mentor for gifted students worldwide from countries including Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, and the UK. Ms Wong is the Gifted Education Advisor of Mensa NSW and graduated with a Masters Degree in Gifted Education from UNSW with excellence.
